Seesaw

I’m searching

Still searching, a place for me

A place where I can fit in

事实上
Actually

We are the same

But you don’t see it

Why can’t you see?

Even if we look unalike

Stop ignoring me!

I’m calling out, please hear my voice

Please don’t hurt me

I want to be loved, like you too

Why treat me like air

Invisible

I have value

I am worthy

Just like you

I’m more than what you could see

Like a seesaw

I’m rocking left and right

When can I stand firmly?

I’m aching, please lift me off

Tired of balancing

My middle ground

But I don’t want to fall

Don’t let me choose

I can’t afford losing any sides

I am both

I am all

The seesaw breaks

Olivia Sinclair’s practice explores the reality behind her identity as a multi-cultural person that might be over looked by our society. In Seesaw the artist wants to express her own experiences of loneliness, alienation, childhood trauma, the struggle of finding a balance between her cultures to feel not left out on either sides and finding a place that she felt belonged to. She expressed her work through a short video, flipping through the photo collage album, using the poem as the storyline, reading it in both English and Mandarin and having subtitles underneath. The video would present to the viewers a very personal and intimate relationship experience from the artist.
